Are you a company in Taiwan or Singapore that could use the support of a graduate from the UK or Canada?
Our programme is a 6-month in-person placement for graduates. All applicants are UK or Canadian citizens and some applicants already speak Chinese. We support with insurance and visas. How you deploy a UK graduate is up to you. We have applicants from a wide range of academic disciplines, from engineering to anthropology and everything in between.

Our Founder
I’m Jamie, the founder of Interworking. Every time I visit countries in Asia, I feel compelled to help more young people from the UK to explore the region. The energy and optimism in places like Taiwan, India and Vietnam are infectious. I believe that connecting students and graduates with companies in Asia and Africa is mutually beneficial and develops young people who can lead our society towards a brighter future.
Before starting Interworking I built InternChina and Pagoda Projects, placing 5,000+ students and graduates onto industry programmes in Europe, Asia and Latin America. I am also the co-founder of the Departure Board, a directory of opportunities for students at UK universities to work or volunteer abroad.
I pride myself on replying to every email and DM, so don’t hesitate to send me an email or connect with me on LinkedIn. I’m open to questions, suggestions and ideas as we scale Interworking in the years to come.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I pay the interns? How much?
Yes. Companies are required to pay a stipend which at least covers rent and food for each 6-month placement. It’s up to you exactly how much to pay and some applicants will want to negotiate!
It may be possible for graduates to supplement their placement stipend with additional ad-hoc tutoring or hospitality work outside of your placement, but this is not something we actively support with.
How does the visa work?
Our destinations have a Youth Mobility agreement with the UK. This means that UK citizens meeting the simple eligibility criteria can work in that country for at least 6 months without requiring a work permit or sponsorship from an employer. We will offer guidance on the visa application process.
The exact requirements, limitations and cost of the visa vary for each destination. For example, in Singapore the maximum visa duration is 6 months, whereas in India it’s 2 years. In Taiwan you receive an initial 6-month visa, which can be extended in Taiwan for a further 6 months.
Do you have a referral scheme for companies?
Yes, we have a structured referral process for individuals, companies or membership bodies such as chambers of commerce who refer companies to us.
For more information on both referral tracks, please email us to get started.
How do you find and screen the graduates applying for placements with my company?
Our founder Jamie’s previous startup Pagoda Projects organised internships around the world for thousands of students over a 15 year period. Through this work we have partnerships with 50+ UK universities and an extended network of academics and ambassadors who share Interworking with final year students.
Our founder also co-founded The Departure Board, a directory of opportunities for UK students to gain work experience abroad. This is another source of applications.
We speak to applicants about their motivations and expectations of a placement and review their LinkedIn profiles to establish their suitability for the placement you’re offering.
Do you provide any in-country support for graduates during the placement?
As standard, we do not offer in-person support during placements. Because we’re focused on graduates, we have prioritised keeping the programme fee as low as possible by avoiding too much wraparound that many grads don’t need. This also helps us to attract the best graduate talent.
We expect graduates’ main source of support in-country to be the colleagues at your company and other graduates on our programme. We’ll signpost graduates towards organised networking and social events in the city you’re based in.
We do offer the option of graduates paying an additional fee for an extra layer of on-site support, with a member of our network offering an airport pickup and accommodation transfer, plus ongoing support over whatsapp.
Can I call someone to talk about questions I have about Interworking?
Yes. Please send us an email with your phone number and availability (or a booking link if you have one) and we’ll give you a call.
